Music in my head

Tonight, I performed some 35 km of my cycling training, one of my standard winter courses along the river. Well-equiped with lights and my iPod , I listended to a collection of podcasts and music (yes, I know it’s not really safe, but I travelled on the cycling path, no traffic at all). With the music in my head the landscape impression seems to me much more intensive. The lights from the other side of the river, the train passing by and disappearing in the darkness, the solitude, far away from crowded places - they all evoke an intensive afterglow.

Chris Liebing

From time to time I like to listen to techno music. I’ve recently collected a number of tracks and I contrast them to other music styles on my iPod. Sometimes I find parallels or even common sources. On the other hand, it may be impressive to listen to pure sounds. They might seem monotone and simple at first glance but after a while you will find subtle changes and fluctuating structures and you recognize the deliberate figure of the track.

Chris Liebing, a German DJ has created a special style, called “Schranz” - powerful and noisy, often mixed with industrial or machinery noise, but well structured. I found some parallels to Steve Reich and Einstürzende Neubauten.
